Design
The initial impression of the Galaxy Book 3 is quite positive. Its design closely resembles that of the Galaxy Book 3 Pro, featuring an all-aluminum build with a Graphite finish, which looks sleek despite its tendency to attract fingerprints and smudges.
In terms of size, the Galaxy Book 3 differs slightly, employing a 16:9 display that makes it approximately 2cm narrower. While the keyboard remains similar in size when unfolded, the palm rest and trackpad have been scaled down. Personally, I find this adjustment favorable, as the trackpad on the Pro model felt massive.
However, the keyboard’s layout is slightly cramped due to the inclusion of a full numpad. While this may appeal to some users, as someone who rarely utilizes a numpad, I occasionally found myself pressing the wrong keys while touch typing. Additionally, the lack of backlighting is notable, especially considering the price point, and suggests a cost-cutting measure compared to the Pro lineup.
Despite these drawbacks, the keyboard still offers minimal deck flex and a satisfactory key feel. In terms of connectivity, the I/O options are decent, including two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, a headphone/mic socket, an HDMI output, and a microSD card reader.
However, it’s worth noting the absence of Thunderbolt support, limiting connectivity to USB 3.2 Gen 1, which may not be sufficient for users heavily reliant on Thunderbolt peripherals.
Drawing from our experience we can clearly state that the hinge quality is excellent and you can easily open this laptop using just one hand as we’ve already mentioned above the weight of the laptop is only 1.54kg so it means you can easily carry it around. Moreover, the touchpad is huge and feels great to use, not to mention the feedback is also good.
Display & Audio
Discover the latest Pro model’s standout features, though the display may not meet all expectations. While offering decent visuals with good contrast and matte finish for enhanced visibility, its 1080p resolution and 60Hz refresh rate are standard for premium laptops in 2024.
Despite a 300-nit output, the display copes well in bright environments, yet direct sunlight poses challenges. Additionally, the 16:9 aspect ratio, though functional, contrasts with the industry shift to 16:10, impacting screen real estate. Drawing from our experience we’ll say that the display is on the decent side as it only has a refresh rate of 60Hz, we believe that Samsung could have done a much better job!
However, the concealed speakers impress with clear audio despite a minimal base and modest maximum volume, ensuring distortion-free sound in the sleek, grille-free design.
The sound quality of this device falls within acceptable standards. It may not match the premium audio experience expected in higher-tier products. It delivers a pleasant listening experience with commendable stereo output and a balanced mix of bass, midrange, and treble frequencies, without significant emphasis on any. However, it struggles to capture subtle nuances in music playback, potentially missing out on finer details.
When it comes to reproducing effects and rumbles in film trailers, it maintains accuracy but lacks the impactful weight that elevates the audio experience. Dolby Audio enhancements are available but disabled by default, offering some control over the equalizer settings, yet the hardware’s limitations ultimately set a cap on the potential.
Ports
So speaking of ports, this laptop does offer different ports, and as you all know ports are extremely vital in Laptops nowadays. We will list down all the ports featured in the Samsung Galaxy Book 3:
- 2 Type C Ports
- HDMI 1.4 Port
- 2 USB TYPE A 3.2
- Kensington Lock
- 3.5mm headphone & mic jack
- Micro SD Card slot
So the only disappointment we have here is from the HDMI 1.4 port Samsung could’ve done a much better job by adding a 2.0 or 2.1 HDMI port.
Battery
Alright, so this laptop has a 52Whr battery and after conducting experiments with it for a while, this laptop lasted around 5-6 hours however, if you perform demanding tasks such as gaming or editing then the battery will indeed drain faster. If you use the laptop on low brightness and with the backlit turned off then it will last longer, this was it for the battery and now let us discuss the kind of performance that this laptop offers.
Performance
So our team used this laptop for quite a while to figure out the kind of performance that this laptop offers and it honestly did pretty well. The Samsung Galaxy Book 3 scored 8228pts in Cinebech R23 and 5162 in PCMark 10, we would also like to mention that all this testing was done in the high-performance mode. This laptop scored pretty well and if your sole purpose if to perform daily less demanding tasks then you aren’t gonna face any issues whatsoever.
Furthermore, we also did some 4k photo editing on this laptop and it handled the task like a champ however, we would advise you to only perform 1080p video editing as this laptop is only capable of performing that, any resolution higher than 1080p will cause this laptop to heat up and eventually lag.
We wouldn’t recommend this laptop for graphic-related tasks such as 3D modeling and if you want to perform high-end graphic-related tasks then we would recommend you go for a different option such as the ASUS Tuf Dash F15.
Gaming Performance
Ah finally the moment that you all must be waiting for, so we’re just gonna get straight to the point and that is this laptop isn’t suitable for high-end gaming. First off we tested CS 2 on low preset and this laptop was able to deliver between 50-80 frames, we even faced numerous FPS drops.
Next up we tested one of the most played games GTA V on FHD low settings preset where this laptop delivered 40-50 frames. Lastly, we tested the fan-favorite game known as Valorant and the results were intriguing indeed as we got over 100-130 frames on FHD low settings.
You’ll only be able to do some casual gaming on this laptop so don’t expect this laptop to run demanding AAA titles. This was it for the Gaming performance and now we’re gonna answer some FAQs down below for you guys.
